Rep. Poliquin’s Bill to Remove Federal Oversight for Woodland Pulp Dams Protested in Bangor

Protesters in Bangor contend there are many unanswered questions about a check introduced by Representative Bruce Poliquin.

Friends and allies of a Wabanaki people and others endangered about a sourroundings protested currently during Poliquin’s Bangor office, voicing their concerns about a check (HR 5465).

It would free Woodland Pulp’s 3 regulated storage dams on a Saint Croix River from Federal Energy Regulatory Commission licensing.

Supporters contend sovereign regulators have imposed new mandate that would severely boost indent costs.

They contend this check would assistance keep some-more than 400 jobs during Woodland Pulp and Saint Croix Tissue.

Protesters worry state control could lead to such things as repairs to a ecosystem and H2O quality.

They contend this check could potentially transgress on their rights.

“The Wabanaki people have never given adult their fundamental living fishing rights. These fishing rights are constantly underneath conflict by pollution, by territorial theft, by informative interference. And we will quarrel for those rights,” pronounced criticism organizer Dawn Neptune Adams.

Poliquin’s bureau says he “took movement to strengthen Washington County jobs, his tip priority, after scarcely a year prolonged routine of conference submit from internal officials, internal adults and internal pursuit creators.”.

His bureau says that includes indent government and fisheries experts.

Protestors contend they reached out to Poliquin’s bureau progressing this week and didn’t hear back.
